Silver Arowana (8.5-9”)

• Scientific Name: Osteoglossum bicirrhosum

• Tank Size: Minimum 250 gallons for adults; juveniles need at least 75–100 gallons.

• Temperature: 75–82°F (24–28°C)

• pH: 6.5–7.8

• Diet: Hikari Food/Carnivore Sticks, Raw Shrimp, Silversides,Tilapia

• Tight-fitting, secure lid—excellent jumpers

• Open swimming space with minimal obstructions

• Tankmates: They work with lots of other large semi aggressive cichlids, Datnoids, Silver Dollars, Stingrays, Larger Catfish etc.

• Behavior: They will cruise at the top of the aquarium. Territorial towards other Arowana. It’s best to keep 1 or 3+. They will eventually swim towards you begging for food once settled.

• Maintenance: Weekly water changes (40-80%)

• Origin: Native to the Amazon River Basin and surrounding areas in South America.

• Size: Can grow up to 36 inches (90 cm) in captivity; even larger in the wild.

• Lifespan: 10–15 years with proper care, sometimes longer.

• Jaw Structure: Bony-tongued fish with an upturned mouth perfect for surface feeding. They also have tiny teeth to grip onto prey. Feed with caution its common for them to jump and bite their owners hands.

• Reproduction: With given time with maturity ~2-4 years and a large aquarium/pond it is possible for them to spawn. Their mouthbrooders, the males will carry the eggs and fry in their mouths for protection.
