Recommended Aquarium Size, Water Changes, and Care

Water Changes: 25–30% weekly to maintain stable water quality.

Care: Provide slow water flow, floating plants, and plenty of hiding spots. A lid is recommended since gouramis are labyrinth fish and breathe surface air.
Tankmates
-
Compatible: Peaceful community fish like tetras, rasboras, corydoras, rainbowfish, mollies, and smaller loaches.

High-quality flakes or pellets
-
Frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp
-
Spirulina based pellets and flakes

Overview
The Powder Blue Gourami is a selectively bred variant of the Three-Spot Gourami, prized for its striking sky-blue coloration. It is hardy, adaptable, and well-suited for community aquariums when given adequate space and hiding spots. Their labyrinth organ allows them to breathe atmospheric oxygen, making them tolerant of lower oxygen conditions, though clean, stable water is still essential for long-term health.
Natural Environment
In the wild, their species originates from Southeast Asia, where they inhabit slow-moving rivers, ponds, swamps, and floodplains. These waters are usually warm, plant-filled, and sluggish, providing ample surface cover.
Breeding
-
Type: Bubble nest builder
-
Setup: Use a separate breeding tank (20 gallons) with warm water (80–82°F), minimal water movement, and floating plants.
-
Process:
-
The male builds a bubble nest at the water’s surface.
-
Courtship involves the male wrapping around the female, who releases eggs into the nest.
-
The male guards the nest and eggs until hatching (24–36 hours).
-
Fry become free-swimming in 3–5 days. Remove the male after hatching to prevent predation.
-
-
Fry Care: Infusoria and liquid fry food at first, then transition to baby brine shrimp and finely crushed flakes.
