Recommended Aquarium Size, Water Changes, and Care:

• Minimum recommended tank size: 40 gallons (150 liters) for a single fish or pair. Larger tanks are preferred for community setups.

Overview:
The Electric Blue Acara is a selectively bred form of the Blue Acara, prized for its shimmering metallic blue coloration and relatively calm temperament compared to many other cichlids. With proper care, they can become personable, recognizing their keeper and showing active, interactive behavior.

Natural Environment:
Though the Electric Blue is a cultivated variety, its wild counterpart (Andinoacara pulcher) originates from slow-moving rivers, lakes, and streams of South and Central America, particularly in areas with sandy bottoms, submerged wood, and moderate vegetation. These waters are typically warm, slightly acidic to neutral, and rich in microinvertebrates.

Breeding:

• They are egg layers and form monogamous pairs.

• When ready, the pair cleans a flat surface (rock, slate, or broad leaf) to lay 150–300 eggs.

• Both parents guard the eggs and fry, fanning them to prevent fungus and defending them from tankmates.

• Eggs typically hatch within 2–3 days, and fry become free-swimming after about a week.

• Fry can be fed infusoria, freshly hatched brine shrimp, or powdered fry food.

• Providing stable water conditions and a quiet environment encourages breeding success.
