Overview:
The Clown Loach is one of the most popular loach species due to its striking orange-and-black striped pattern and active, social nature. Known for its playful behavior and habit of resting on its side, it requires large aquaria and group living for long-term success. They are best kept by experienced aquarists who can accommodate their size and long lifespan.

Natural environment:
Native to Indonesia, specifically the rivers of Sumatra and Borneo. Found in floodplain rivers and streams with soft substrates, submerged roots, and leaf litter. Seasonal flooding provides additional feeding grounds.

Breeding:
Breeding in home aquaria is extremely rare and not well documented, though some success has been reported in large commercial facilities with hormone induction. In nature, they migrate into floodplains to spawn. Eggs are scattered among vegetation and left unguarded.
