• It’s best to give them a strong structure to hide and have some security. They like to dig pits and rearrange decor in the tank. 

•Omnivorous diet: Hikari cichlid gold and xtreme monster/big fella pellets, frozen shrimp, worms, and occasional vegetables for balanced nutrition. Avoid feeders as this will most likely lead to disease and a malnourished Oscar

• Behavior - They will be upfront like a puppy dog begging for food. They will do fine by themselves or in larger groups. Males can get very territorial with each other even killing the weaker male. They will eat anything they think they can fit in their mouths, so avoid smaller fish!

Tankmates- They do best with other larger fish. Jack Dempsey, Silver Dollars, Arowana, Larger Catfish, Red Parrots etc.

•Native to South American mainly the Orinoco River Basin. The Oscar fish has been successfully lineage bred in captivity to create an assortment of colors Tiger, Albino Tiger, Lemon, Chili, Red etc.

•Breeding has been done in captivity. The male and female will pair up and find a flat surface to spawn. It’s best to use ceramic, terra cotta or smooth slate. They will lip lock and shake at each other as a commonly aggressive breeding ritual. The female once ready will then deposit her eggs with the male following to fertilize them. They will guard the eggs and fry.
